The blog She’s a Fan features homemade crayon and marker drawings of celebrities and fictional characters from film and TV in naturalistic settings. “Sandies and Madgsies get TOTALLY RIPPED” imagines Sandra Bernhard and Madonna posing for a friend’s camera in between bong hits and sexual experimentation. “Joy Snaps A Facebook Gem In Front Of Her New Fav Painting at MOMA” depicts The View’s Joy Behar cheerfully posing in front of Picasso’s ‘Le Demoisselles d’Avignon.’ The drawings are poppy, sweet, and very sincere. Ryan Blomberg, the artist behind She’s a Fan, became obsessed with fan art and websites devoted to obscure old actors and actresses. He allows himself to obsess over his favorite things without any self-judgment over whether a subject might be “too gay.” After checking out his site, BUTT Blog asked him to go wild and do a series of his choice for us. The result is five portraits of fictional male artist characters from film and TV.

BUTT: Why did you decide to do this subject for your series for BUTT?
Ryan: I always love seeing sets of people and characters with common traits. I chose fictional male artists because it’s fun to see the art the characters make and the stereotypes of artists are usually really entertaining. I picked Gene because I absolutely love his style, especially in that movie. Paul Newman always looked great and again, this is such a good movie, I had to use it. Stash from Slaves of New York is the epitome of a dickhead artist type and his art in the movie is so fun. Huge pictures of cartoon characters in neon colors.  Richard from Caroline in the City was such a cheesy version of the tortured artist stereotype that it made him really classic, at least to me. And Eldin…I mean the overalls alone.

Gene Kelly as Jerry Mulligan in An American in Paris

Paul Newman as Larry Flint in What a Way to Go!

Adam Coleman Howard as Stash in Slaves of New York.

Malcolm Gets as Richard Karinsky in Caroline in the City.

Robert Pastorelli as Eldin Bernecky in Murphy Brown
