Yesterday at the NY Art Book Fair, where BUTT is stationed all weekend in the ‘Flaming Creatures’ section, we gave five random readers the chance to be interviewed for BUTT. We asked each visitor one question, “What are you most excited about right now in the world?” We tried to keep the interview to that question, but on occasion a few follow-up questions were necessary. We got an unusual range of responses, and hopefully we’ll be able to do another round today. Here are the responses:

INTERVIEW 1: SCOOTER

Scooter: Wow, that’s really…. that’s really hard. I guess I’m excited about caves, bat caves because they have their own eco-system inside and like animals live in there and they never come out and they’re all supported by the feces of all the bats. So like there’s like bugs and other animals who never go outside of the cave and they all live on all this bat shit their whole lives. I just saw it on TV but it was a really cool cave. It made me excited. They had cockroaches, crabs, centipedes, rats that all survive on this big mountain of dung from the bats, that’s huge like bigger than this room.

BUTT: Are you going to visit bat caves now?

I would love to.

INTERVIEW 2: SETH, BIRMINGHAM, ALABAMA

Seth: I think that I’m excited most about the potential for a unified perspective, perspective’s wrong, multitude of perspectives. A more unified movement towards something positive. I see we’re in a place where we could move in that direction or move in something that is antithetical to that. But it’s exciting. So I’m excited about the possibility. Doesn’t make any sense at all does it?

Are you talking in terms of a social movement?

Social movement, yeah, it seems that the conservatism, religious right is having its dying gasps which is why they’re so bat shit crazy at the moment that, it’s a sign of the decline of that perspective and the potential for movement forward.

INTERVIEW 3: RUSSELL, TEXAS

Russell: Um, I….Wow, um, I guess right now I’m excited about just to be in Texas and have a good crew of friends and a community of people that I’m involved in and I’m just, its lame, but I’m just happy to be around right now.

INTERVIEW 4: BASTIEN, MONTREAL

Photo 8

Bastien: Boys! Boys! To be alive. To be in New York. To be here. And Boys! Not really to do things with because I have a friend, a boyfriend. But I like to see how beautiful they are.

Do you prefer classical beauty or guys who look strange and unusual?

No muscles! That’s why I like BUTT.

INTERVIEW 5: MILAN, NEW YORK

Photo 9

Milan: I’m excited about Fluxus. We just had a huge collection that was given to us at the MOMA where I work in the library. It’s a big cataloging process in order to display.

Have you always been a big fan of the movement?

It’s something I’m learning more about.

So you’re excited by the process of exploration?

Yes, and it fills a big gap in the museum’s collection.

Thank you.

no, guys, none of you sounded dumb at all. that’s a large part of what makes BUTT so great to me: real people talk about what they’re really into rather than all the obviously phony glitz and image-consciousness in pretty much every other medium. seth is right, these were fun!
