B-J kissing copy

We’ve been diligently reporting on the progress of director Travis Matthews’ debut feature film I Want Your Love – and with good reason. The film, a micro-indie/mumblecore film about the lives of a group of San Franciscans featuring actors having real sex, ala Shortbus, was inspired by the ‘BUTT Magazine Readers: In Their Rooms’ videos featured on our website last year, which Matthews directed. We reported on the casting of Brenden in March, and now a short demo scene has been posted on NakedSword, who are co-producing the film. The scene features Brenden and Jesse, two friends who are playfully negotiating having sex with each other for the first time, though they’ve known each other for a while. Check out the scene HERE and let us know how you like it. We’re always very proud when someone’s inspired enough by us to make something of their own.

WOW I loved it! It felt real, but still sexy, hehe. Very sweet and hot. I love it when Brenden is on his knees and looks up at Jesse and smiles… it kills me! And when he takes it out and licks it! damn, so sexy!
But anyway… why are some critizing the demo? talking about how unreal, unnatural, boring and uninteresting the characters are and how there is no real connection between them, no story to follow and how their chemistry is only sexual and how it’s staged and blah, blah, blah. Remember people, this is NOT a short film, in which I would agree with the comments that the characters and story should be more developed. This is a DEMO…DEMO (not even a trailer) of the feature film. So… character development and the aspects that elaborate on these two guys’ intimacy, the nature of their friendship and relationship, the complications, the real emotions and their acting capacity will eventually blossom in the feature film. At least, that is my guess and my hope! Can’t really say how it will turn out.
So before we go all “film-critics” on this one, lets remember this is NOT the finished product. It is just a sneak peek, a mere scene. Which I personally found well made, natural, sexy, well acted and interesting enough for me to wait patiently for the finished product! So give it a break and enjoy what you can about this romantic sex scene! ;oD

i second that previous comment. it seems that this filmmaker has an opportunity here to make something unusual and extraordinary….so why does he seem to be so trapped in capturing such uninspired people? is he afraid of strong choices? i need to see whats special about these two other than their cuteness. so far, this project feels unremarkable.

i said this about the ‘in their rooms’ series, and i’ll say it again:

wow, san fran of the present looks dreadfully boring. could these guys get any more normal?

i’m tired of queers and supposed ‘art fags’ nowadays being ‘just like regular guys, scruffy, and down to earth,’ bla bla bla, BLAND!

    ***
representation aside, travis obviously has a knack for creating naturalistic productions, and the actors seem pretty gifted. i hope the feature will be more interesting and less inert than the demo. and yes, i know that’s the point of mumblecore…but i’m still hoping for something a bit more poignant…enigmatic or artistic out of this (a la david gordon green or kelly reichardt).

I think it’s sad how no one picked up on the fact that at the end one guy jumps up to talk to someone else and leaves the other boy behind…sex without emotions messes you up.

So sexy. Really well done, can’t wait to see the rest. The comparisons to Shortbus will be inevitable but from what I’ve seen, this could blow Shortbus out of the water.

In the video, there was a scene when Jesse fucked Brenden doggy-style, he kissed Brenden back and kindly asked: “How you doin?” and Brenden answers in a softest, most gentle voice: “Good”. It melt me right away.

actually….just an edit of BUTT’s description above:
brenden plays brenden. jesse plays jesse.

  34. Bert added on April 24, 2010 :

In my opinion this is not really brilliant, it’s defenitely not art because it doesn’t take you out of your dayly routine and it doesn’t provides any new perspectives.

There are porn studio’s like Sean Cody who produce the same video’s. These productions are based upon the commercial idea that the simple viewer thinks this is real and that this is within his range. Of course almost anybody can relate to dialogue as well as the actors. Who doesn’t want the sex he is after? No big deal. For people afraid to tell what they want in bed, this might work educational. It’s very much about identification.

For the actors I think their work is piece of self exploitation. Brenden might win an oscar for best hairy butt, however they better give it to me. No kidding. What is presented here as acting is in fact presenting sexuality. If the boys weren’t sexually attracted to each other they would have been forced to reach much deeper into their souls to come up with something. Chances were likely we would have seen two personas, 2 deliberately created persons who display a much wider set of expressions and emotions because they are artificial and established. In the context of narration, reality isn’t necessarily interesting.

  41. david added on April 24, 2010 :

i really enjoyed his earlier documentary vignette things. they felt truly genuine and authentic, which made them all the more sexy. i encourage his efforts, and i’m sure this film will have similarly beautiful moments. but the thing i liked best about those vignettes was that the director, the filmer, whatever — he was observing. he was framing the action, deciding what we saw and drawing it out of his subjects, but, because of he chose cool people and because he knew what made them interesting, it worked. this doesn’t seem as interesting and enjoyable as the other works, probably because it attempts to communicate intimacy between two people. these dudes seem less like they share an interesting, complex connection, and more like they’re fucking for art or just trying to get off, or both. i think trying to capture the closeness between two people (especially sexually, and in this sort of quasi-documentary style) will only work if the connection is genuine, and this feels sort of halfsie to me. also, i think it would be more effective to include wider shots from further away, where the frame included both of them at the same time; i want to see the way they talk to each other, how each responds; it might make me feel closer.

  42. Jay added on April 24, 2010 :

If all porn was made like that….I think it would be much more respected and watched! Sign me up for more of that!

I am legitimately excited for this now. That was spectacular; I may be predisposed to think so, seeing as I’m a huge champion of the mumblecore movement, but wow.

I can’t wait ’til this comes out. That was beautiful. Beautifully shot, acted and written.
