Tonight at the MOCA Pacific Design Center in Los Angeles, artist Ryan Trecartin will be having his first major American museum show, ‘Any Ever’, which will feature all of his hyperkinetic, kaleidoscopic video art from the past three years. As you can see from the video below, ‘Popular Sky’, Ryan’s videos often feature him and his cast playing multiple characters, usually clad in neon wigs and psychedelic body makeup, their vocals sped up chipmunk style or slowed down to sound like a tape that’s run out of batteries. Expect to emerge feeling high if you haven’t gotten that way prior to attending, which I’d personally recommend. The show runs through October 17th.

Trecartin is streets ahead of so many other contemporary artists. It took me a while to acclimate myself to his vision, over the last few years. But once you learn the lay of the land, it’s some of the most invigorating, inspiring, and hilarious work around.
