Blocked in Bahrain

It recently came to our attention that homosexuals in the Kingdom of Bahrain are being cockblocked — or in this case, buttblocked — by the country’s internet authority. Faisal, who hopes to one day be able to read BUTT online, got in touch through our Facebook page to clue us in on the homophobic crackdown on gay-related sites in his home country.

Since 2009, the pearl clutching Minister of Culture (deep breath) Sheikha Mai Bent Mohammed Al-Khalifa has overseen the closing of over 1,000 homo-friendly sites in the guise of an anti-porn crusade. Many of these sites had no pornographic content whatsoever.

Such institutionalized homophobia is taking its toll on Faisal’s lovelife. He recently had to drop a possible ‘soulmate’ who considered his gayness emasculating, but didn’t mind getting under another man’s thobe when the opportunity presented itself. He explains, ‘…Only when we were in a hotel room alone did he stop flirting with girls and cracking fag jokes.’
