BUTT Migrates to New Website Host
A MESSAGE FROM THE WEBMASTER'S DESK
On 7 April 2011, BUTT got an email from our web host, Media Temple stating: ‘It has come to the attention of the Media Temple Abuse Department that your site "buttmagazine.com" is being used to host pornographic content. A site hosting or linking to pornographic content is in violation of the Media Temple Acceptable Usage Policy… This needs to be resolved within 72 hours.’
Okay, BUTT’s not really porn, but it seems we overlooked the fine print of Media Temple’s Acceptable Usage Policy with regards to ‘explicit content’. BUTT had been working with Media Temple since May 2010, so their warning came as a bit of a surprise in April 2011. According to a representative at Media Temple who had reviewed the BUTT site previously, the site had ‘evolved a bit’ in terms of sexual explicitness since it first went up back in October 2010.
So this week, BUTT migrated to a new host on the world wide web. It must be said that Media Temple has been has been pretty cooperative, allowing us the time needed to migrate to the new host. Although, we had to ‘tone it down a bit’ until we did: ‘Basically, no full frontal nudity and no copulation of any kind.’ When they singled out a couple online calendar images which went ‘over the line’, we couldn’t help wonder about the lucky individual at their office who got the job of snooping around the BUTT site for prime examples of explicit content.
Now we can be as nasty as we wanna be, sort of… Our new host, NationalNet, a hosting company for many adult sites, has no problem whatsoever with explicit images (so long as they comply with 18 U.S.C. 2257). This year, they won the Cybersocket Web Award (at an event held in West Hollywood, of course, honoring the best GLTB websites) for Best Hosting Company. From now on, we like to imagine there’s a team of hot IT geeks hosting of our server — in their underwear.
Along with the host change, the whole site now loads faster, the menus have been tweaked to make navigation speedier, and the front page now attaches older posts automatically when you’ve reached the bottom of the page. Plus in CLUB BUTT, you can access your latest messages more easily from the menu at the top of the page, and send private messages to multiple buddies at once.
