David Benjamin Sherry flying solo in NYC

Tomorrow, BUTT fans in New York City will want to check out the first solo exhibition in that city by David Benjamin Sherry. You may recall, David shot Salem for BUTT 25, and psychic vagabond Jonah for the cover of BUTT’s 2012 calendar. The above image features a kind of peek-a-boo penis setup, not unlike the photo of Jonah’s flaccid cock featured in the month of January.

Of course, still life photography is only one aspect of David’s work. Mostly, nature boy’s been traveling America’s national parks like some kind of Ansel Adams, capturing the dazzling natural wonder and keeping a detailed account of the colors he saw there. The real magic happens back at his Brooklyn studio, where his trademark use of saturated hues is pushed into the stratosphere with a little darkroom alchemy.

‘Astral Desert’ opens tomorrow, 26 April at both Salon 94 Bowery and Freeman Alley locations, and will remain on view through 26 May.
