Swinger State

Surely the practice of polygamy’s long gone and face it: Utah’s not in any way a swing state — or battleground state as they’re so dramatically referred to as the U.S. election hots up. The good Mormon folk will surely come out in droves for Mitt, which makes it the perfect time and place for the Utah Museum of Contemporary Art to stage their ‘Battleground States’ exhibition.

UMOCA’s calling the show ‘a post-gender study in figuration and identity’. The words ‘gay’ or ‘homosexual’ never pop up in the press release, but they’ve included the work of several queer artists like Nayland Blake, AA Bronson, Felix Gonzalez-Torres, Terence Koh, Dean Sameshima, and David Wojnarowicz. We’re guessing it’s also going to be the best place to meet a cute, possibly single art fag in Salt Lake City tonight.

‘Battleground States’ opens tonight from 8 to 10 P.M. MDT as part of UMOCA’s monthly First Friday series with deejays, performances and a cash bar. The exhibition is on from today 5 October 2012 until 5 January 2013. For more info visit their website.
