BUTT TUNES

Unputdownable Brooklyn threesome Bottoms are ret to go with their first EP, ‘Goodbye’, which is out this week on former electroclasher and Le Tigre frontman JD Samson’s label, Atlas Chair. Bottoms’ four-to-the-floor beats are tainted with tragic scenarios, plus a healthy dose of sarcasm and kooky transvestism. Stream, listen and follow the whispered, cursed lyrics below.

While that goth performance artist with a super butch name, Jake, performs audio fellatio on the mic, you’ve got Simon, known circuit bender and former tweaker at Teeth, squeezing out acidic basslines and Michael pounding his drums. It’s a spontaneous take on electronic music which fuses the best of the genre’s icy sonic palette with playful live dynamics. If you haven’t already caught it, their live show is a must-see.

‘Gasoline’

I can’t sleep
I’m covered in gasoline
There’s something wrong with me
‘Cuz I’m in ecstasy

I can’t sleep
I’m covered in gasoline
There’s something wrong with me
‘Cuz I’m in ecstasy
Please kill me

Please kill me

First I’ll go to my parents’ house and I’ll ask you to come over. We’ll go for a swim in the pool. You say, ‘Oh I don’t have a bathing suit’. I laugh and say, ‘Haha me neither. It’s fine, we’ll just go nude’. And you strip and climb into the pool, and I stare at your ass.

We’re out in the sun and we’re a little drunk, just floating around and splashing each other. And at this point, Scott comes out from behind the bushes. He smashes a bottle of Corona over the back of your head, and you pass out face down in the water. And Scott gets in the pool with me.

We’re swimming laps around your body, and we’re kissing and having a margarita, and we pull you out and lay you on the concrete. I just let the blood run off into the pool, and it’s really beautiful and I stare at you. And we go to the bar and meet a girl and bring her home.

I can’t sleep
I’m covered in gasoline
There’s something wrong with me
‘Cuz I’m in ecstasy
Please kill me

Please kill me
