BUTT TUNES

With some parts of the Northern Hemisphere enjoying a bit of an Indian summer, BUTT is very pleased to present a new jangle pop love song from that sunstroked Brooklyn duo, The Drums. Regular readers of BUTT magazine will remember singer Jonny Pierce's tell-all interview with Paul Flynn from BUTT 29.

The new LP from The Drums, Encyclopedia, is booby-trapped with sonic dynamite — plus all that exuberant guitar shredding (à la The B-52s) and those pretty falsetto melodies their fans know and love.

‘Kiss Me Again’ in particular delivers precisely what one might have wanted, but was in such short supply from, say, the last Morrissey record. Perhaps if the celibate curmudgeon got to plant one on someone as yummy as Jonny’s husband, Jasper, he might’ve gone into joyous hysterics too.

‘Kiss Me Again’

I cannot complain today because I’m around you.
And I could not look the other way because I love you.
And it’s hard to admit it but deep in my cold heart,
There’s a voice that screams out.
And it’s screaming…

‘Give it to me!’
‘Give it to me!’
‘Give it to me!’
‘Give it to me!’
‘Give it to me!’
‘Give it to me!’
‘Give it to me!’
‘Give it to me!’

Kiss me again, kiss me again, kiss me again, kiss me again…
Kiss me again, kiss me again, kiss me again, kiss me again…

Blissful ignorance, let me sink into it for once
Like a child, let me feel like a child.
And it’s hard not to be ashamed
But deep in my stone heart,
There’s a voice that screams out
And it’s screaming …

‘Give it to me!’
‘Give it to me!’
‘Give it to me!’
‘Give it to me!’
‘Give it to me!’
‘Give it to me!’
‘Give it to me!’
‘Give it to me!’

Kiss me again, kiss me again, kiss me again, kiss me again…
Kiss me again, kiss me again, kiss me again, kiss me again…

I wanna be here so long!

‘Kiss Me Again’ is from the LP Encyclopedia by The Drums and is available — in red vinyl no less — through their website from 22 September 2014.
