The Pearl

Steev Lemercier was born on land (in Geneva actually), but his heart lives with the sea (he grew up in Sicily, but calls Berlin home for the last thirteen years). The sea shanty has always been a major musical inspiration to him. Here Steev shares a preview of ‘The Pearl’ from his forthcoming Merman Tale long player. It’s a sun-kissed lullaby in three quarter time, which unfolds like a merman’s meditation.

Steev has recently been spotted performing with his band, The Lala Boys, at the Venice Biennale — an ideal location for any merman — as part of the Pane per i Poveri art and music festival, as well as the Christodoulos Panayiotou party, which was set in the delicate rose garden of the Palazzo Malipiero. Magic!

BUTT asked Steev if his life as a merman was a solitary one, and he had this to say: ‘The merman goes on solo… He’s waiting to be hunted by a jolly sailor bold’.

I woke up today and I recalled, the broken is hard to fix…
