California homocore fans will want to check out two very special shows in San Francisco and L.A. this weekend organized by BUTT buddy Cesar Padilla. For the occasion, he’s put together BUTT’s first rock ‘n’ roll mixtape which touches on acid, glam, grunge, punk, surf and stoner rock. Cesar’s group, the Ritchie White Orchestra (the dudes behind the BUTT Theme), take the idea of garage rock to a whole new level tonight when they perform with Brontez’ Younger Lovers at the woman-owned and operated Lucious Garage, South of Market. More naked drummers please!

While most homos are happy with their own club night and a tumblr page, Cesar oversees a vintage clothing empire (Cherry Vintage), writes, directs, and still makes time for band practice. I caught up with Cesar in San Fran for a quick chat.

Danny: What instument do you play?
Cesar: I play guitar mainly. I have five guitars. I have this amazing white one, but it’s disappeared. It’s this Japanese guitar from the 60s that gives this like super chunky sound, like a Lita Ford in The Runaways kinda sound.
You have an extensive collection of rock concert tees… Are you going to be wearing one when you perform tonight?
I don’t wear t-shirts when I play. I tend to dress up. I tend to go for the eternal summer prep look that I wear everyday. Although, I actually brought a mechanic’s jump suit and I may be wearing it on Friday night. Unbuttoned all the way down to the crotch…
How did your collaboration with Stephin Merrit come about?
He and I met ages ago on my birthday. We’d sit in his room and listen to paisley underground records. We were both obsessed with The Three O’clock and The Bangles, Rain Parade and all those L.A. bands.
Who is Monica West?
Monica West is the name of a hair salon on Santa Monica Boulevard near The Gold Coast bar in West Hollywood.
How does one know when one has hit rock bottom?
I am pretty certain I have never hit rock bottom.

See the Ritchie White Orchestra and Younger Lovers in San Francisco tonight, 16 March from 9 until 11 PM at Luscious Garage, 475 9th Street, SoMa. Catch Bottom Feeder, Miata, and the Ritchie White Orchestra with guest deejays Roddy Bottum and Paul Zone in L.A. on Sunday, 18 March from 5 until 9 PM at The Echo, 1822 Sunset Boulevard, Silverlake.
