Grubstake Diner

Everyone has his or her hangover cure, but my preferred ounce of prevention is a soul-warming bowl of the Grubstake Diner’s Caldo Verde soup, which might as well be Portuguese for ‘the cure.’ Adjacent to both the Tenderloin’s seedier areas as well as the club corridor along Polk, SF’s oldest late night diner attracts night owls of all feathers, be it off-duty hustlers or bridge-and-tunnel stragglers, so you’re bound to be downing your burger or some of Grubstake’s other Portuguese fare in mixed but lively company.
