House of Butt
Every now and then, we hope to tempt Buttheads away from their computer screens and provoke them into shaking their buns on the dancefloor. This time, we pitch our flag of fagdom in Berlin on Friday night, 21 June 2013 (which just so happens to be on the eve of Christopher Street Day). Over the course of ten hours, eight connoisseurs of house music are on hand for our four-to-the-floor tanzparty.
Fussy-eared DJ Sprinkles (she can tell within four beats whether she likes a track) has been producing and spinning deep house since the early nineties, and she’ll be sharing some gems from her rarified collection. She tells us she’s been waiting for someone to request something she actually has, so please do your homework before approaching the booth thankyouverymuch.
Blonde bomb from icy-cool Stockholm, Staffan Lindberg may be youngest chap in our lineup this time around, but don’t let those baby blues fool you – he means business. Tracks from his crackerjack ‘Art of the State’ EP on Dolly Dubs have been appearing on the most fierce playlists for the last six months. Leave it to the Swede to find the sweet spot.
Stereogamous, the top deejay duo from Sydney who started out crafting sets for bathhouses, have been crossing paths with BUTT for several years now, so we’re totally stoked to finally snag them during their European sexcation. For this auspicious performance, they’ve got Shytown native Shaun J. Wright (of Hercules and Love Affair fame) on the mic! Expect a jaw-dropping live show vis-a-vis the hometown of house.
Enthusiastic New Yorker Ryan Smith holds his own club night, Wrecked, in a sweaty afterhours basement in the East Village. Ryan is one of those rare finds — a gay with excellent taste in music. He brings a trippy, cavernous atmosphere to his sets that makes even the smallest room seem like a warehouse. He and his loosely-affiliated pink shadow organization, Discaire Records, have been putting out some unputdownable records.
In a parallel universe, Discodromo are CLUB BUTT’s resident deejays. That is, when they’re not holding court at their own night Cocktail d’Amore — ask any buddy, he’ll tell you, it’s one of the most convivial nights out in Berlin. Giacomo and Giovanni also bang out some of the most spaced-out records you’re likely to hear on any dancefloor.
House of BUTT takes place on Friday night, 21 June 2013 from 11 P.M. to 9 A.M. at Prince Charles, Prinzenstraße 85, 10969 in Berlin. That’s just one hundred meters or so from the Moritzplatz U-Bahn station in Kreuzberg. Entry is €5 all night long.
