That’s Julian, 30-year-old French-speaking Swiss guy from Geneva. He and António had a summer fling last year which seemed like the right time for António to take his Super 8 camera out and start filming. This is just a clip from António’s ten minute short ‘Julian’, playing this weekend at the IndieLisboa Independent Film Festival in Portugal.
António and Julian met drunk, it was a Saturday night at the Joiner’s Arms which is always kind of hit-or-miss, but they found each other. There was a month-long pause, then they went for more drinks and António invited Julian, completely out of the blue, on a road trip around Portugal.
What António likes about Julian is that he’s handsome, but not narcissistic. Nevermind the fact that he’s ginger — that gets António going — he was also attracted to Julian’s ‘connection with nature’ and the fact that he studied Evolution, Biology and Psychology. Julian’s house is full of plants, of course, and he’s always planting new plants and giving plants to friends. Sergio has a few which have grown very big since Julian gave them to him as little ones.
Just before their summer love faded, they even graced us with their presence in the 2012 BUTT calendar. Julian has recently finished his dissertation on the ‘Psycho-behavioural correlates of male homosexuality’ by the way, and António keeps making films.
‘Julian’ will play at Culturgest in Lisbao on 29 and 30 April, and 4 May. For times and more info, go here.
